Our Lesson Program

Lesson Program Cover Pic.jpg

The bond between horse and rider starts long before you get into the saddle. We want everyone to enjoy horses as much as we do, that’s why our lesson program is devoted to building horsemanship, a practice that includes confidence, problem solving and communication skills.

Students can choose between english or western riding and we supply the appropriate tack. Our lessons are an equal blend of riding time and time spent caring for and learning about your horse, such as: grooming, tack, horse health, and horse behaviour.

Our lovely instructor

Erika Metro

And our assistant instructor

Jaelee Eskow

Meet our four-legged staff:

Eddie

Anglo Arabian

Eddie was born in 2007 and stands 14.2 hh. He’s a pretty multicultural guy, he is: 1/2 Arabian, 1/4 Quarter Horse, and 1/4 Thoroughbred. He’s about the friendliest fellow you could ever meet! He’s quiet, sure footed and happy to get to know everyone. He loves trail rides and resting his nose on his stall bars, if you walk through the barn you’ll probably get a glimpse of his little black muzzle. Also, Eddie is a twin! There’s was a 1 in 10,000 chance of his mom having twin babies, which makes Eddie a 1 in 10,000 baby! He’s our little miracle!

Bob_edited.jpeg

Bob

Anglo Arabian

Bob was born in 2007 and is 15.3 hh. He’s mostly Arabian but he has a small part of Thoroughbred in him too. Bob’s full name is KHS Born to be Bad ++++//, and he’s spent a lot of time in the show ring doing a variety of disciplines. He’s competed at the regional and national levels, which is were the marks at the end of his name come from, they tell us that he’s a champion! Actually, he’s been a champion more than a few times. Despite his professionalism in the show ring, Bob is a pretty quirky guy, he loves sweets, like candy, and he can even drink out of a cup. He’s the star of our lesson horses and give many people their first ride.

Judy_edited.jpeg

Judy

Norwegian Fjord

Judy is our oldest lesson horse being born in 2001 and stands 15 hh. Fjord’s are a small, but nimble, breed of draught horse. Draught horses are stocky and are bred to do work, like pulling carts or farm equipment. This makes Judy a very sturdy horse and she’s very foot-smart too, meaning that she maintains her balance really well, especially on rough terrain. She’s an adventurous soul and loves trail riding and eating snacks. Sometimes she can be a little bit stubborn, so be ready to ride!

Jimmy_edited.jpeg

Jim

Norwegian Fjord

Jim is Judy’s other half, they’re a bonded pair and came to our farm together in the summer of 2019. Jim was born in 2004 and is a bit smaller than Judy at 14.1 hh, but he too is a purebred Norwegian Fjord. Along with Judy, Jim loves to walk the trails and they both have a long employment history as lesson horses. He’s very quiet, friendly, and always enjoys his sneaky grass attempts. You’ll notice Jim in any field as he is a pretty stylish fellow sporting a mohawk.

Sean

Half Arabian Half Saddlebred

Sean was born in 2008 and is our tallest lesson horse at 16.1 hh. He used to work as a Hunter Pleasure show horse, and has been through our training program at Tomanek Farms. Now he works as a member of our lesson program with bounds of energy and a huge heart. He’s very playful and smooth to ride, but he can be crafty at times and will certainly keep you on your toes as a rider. He also loves to make friends, so if you’re out in the pasture he’s bound to come over and check you out!

Fiona

Anglo Arabian

Fiona, AKA She’s Marvelous, was born in 2016 and is 14.3 hh. She too was in our training program here to do western pleasure in the show ring but decided it wasn’t her cup of tea. Now she works as a fun and energetic lesson horse and likes to trot around with some pep in her step. She’s an amazing teacher all around and is a beautiful little girl. She always enjoys some good scratches whenever anyone’s around.

Enya

Arabian

Enya is 15hh and was born in 2002. She was trained and shown in dressage for a good while, and spent time as a broodmare in her older years. A favourite of many, she is a hard worker and a smooth ride. Enya is a lovely horse for our riders to work on their positions as she’s steady and attentive. Despite her being a little older she’s got lots of life still left in her and is a very willing gal.

Bonus tip: she doesn’t like apples so bring a carrot to get on her good side!

Samira

Curly Pony

Samira was born in 2018 and is our smallest lesson pony standing at 11 hh. We got Sami as a nothing special yearling, now she’s the star pony of our program. She’s amazing with the little kids, beginner through advanced, and allows our smaller students to learn by doing since she’s their size. She’ll pack around whoever she can carry with a relaxed low head and a happy demeanour. Loved by all, Samira is such a huge part of our program despite her small size.

Poppy

Curly Pony

Poppy stands 11.3 hh and is our youngest lesson horse being born in 2019. As such she has lots of energy and love to give out to all. With her spunk and fun colouring she is quite the eye-catcher and always likes to show off. Poppy is a playful little pony and is willing to give anything a try. Because of her age and forward energy she doesn’t get used as much for lessons but she tries her best and leaves a memorable impression on all that spend time with her.
